We contribute our money to national and worldwide mission projects of our denomination and inter-denominational efforts. Special day offerings are taken for Week of Compassion, which serves people in crisis, and Reconciliation, which fights racism. We also rally whenever a need is brought to our attention, such as when we had a chance to contribute to a truckload of goods being sent to a Mexican village devastated by a hurricane. Chalice Christian Church cares, and we translate our caring into action.
Paz de Cristo
Paz de Cristo (Peace of Christ) is a soup kitchen in Mesa, Arizona that feeds 130-220 homeless people on any given night - 365 days of the year. Chalice Christian Church teams up with other East Valley Disciples congregations to prepare, feed, and clean-up after one meal per month at Paz de Cristo.
Our designated day is the 3rd Sunday of each month. We enlist the help of up to 20 volunteers from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. This is an ongoing ministry to our community. If you would like more information on our Paz de Cristo Ministry or would like to help us by serving a meal or making a donation of food or toiletry items (toothbrush, toothpaste, small shampoo, soaps, etc.) please contact the church office at ChaliceOffice@gmail.com.
Refugee Ministry
In July, 2002, we became aware of the needs of refugees resettling in this valley and accepted the call to sponsor an Amerasian family from Vietnam in partnership with the Department of Refugees and Immigration of the Disciples of Christ and the local affiliate. Since then Chalice has become committed to the refugee and immigration ministry and we have helped resettle families from Afghanistan, Iran and Kenya. In March we began again to resettle a family from Eritrea. This family of three--father, mother and baby--was made welcome with an apartment furnished with donations from Chalice family and a hot meal to nourish them.
A refugee is a person with a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of their race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. --The United States refugee Act of 1980.
